Ian Satchwell is the Perth-based Director of ACIL Tasman with responsibility for operations in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. He joined the firm in July 2001. Ian has more than 20 years’ experience in industry policy at state, national and international levels, operating at the business-government-community interface. He has held senior positions in four minerals and energy industry bodies: the Tasmanian Minerals Council, Electricity Supply Association of Australia, Minerals Council of Australia and The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia. In these roles, Ian was closely involved in policy development and regulation design, with particular emphasis on environmental, social and trade issues.
Ian is experienced in advising industry and government on a broad range of issues relating to industry investment and government policy. Ian’s assignments at ACIL Tasman have involved:
• economic, social and strategic assessments of major projects
• infrastructure policy and planning for government and industry
• investment attraction and facilitation
• market assessments for infrastructure projects including industrial precincts, ports and railways
• regional economic development scoping and strategies
• indigenous business feasibility, and business planning and mentoring
• services sector policies and trade.
Ian has consulting experience in all Australian States and Territories and in several countries in Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei.
Ian is a member of the General Council of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia and chairs the CCIWA Services Forum. He is Convenor of the Australia Indonesia Business Council national Free Trade Advisory Group and a member of the AIBC WA State Committee. He is a member of the Board of the Australian Services Roundtable and a member of the CEDA State Advisory Council. Ian is also business advisor to KULCHA Multicultural Arts of WA.
