  • ACIL Tasman completes a report on current and alternative transport fuels

ACIL Tasman recently completed a report on current and alternatuve transport fuels for the Department of Transport and Department of Primary Industries in Victoria. The report examined the applicability to different transport modes, recent developments, production constraints, market factors, environmental impacts, barriers to higher uptake, and implications for fuel security in Victoria with regards to the following fuels: petrol, diesel, LPG, compressed natural gas (CNG), synthethic fossil fuels (via coal-to-liquid and gas-to-liquid processes), first and second biofuels (such as ethanol and biodiesel), biogas, bydrogen and electricity. The report is expected to assist the Victorian Government in developing appropriate policies for transport fuels over the coming decade.

  • Transport sector greenhouse emissions and policies

ACIL Tasman recently completed a substantial study of greenhouse emissions from the transport sector for the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation. It covered the current level of transport sector greenhouse emissions, projections of those emissions under business-as-usual assumptions, expected emissions-reducing technological improvements, and possible policy responses in the short and longer term. Extensive economic modelling provided the basis for an abatement cost curve for a wide range of emission reducing measures.

  • ACIL Tasman's report for the Energy Supply Association of Australia on the potential impact of an emissions trading scheme (ETS) on the Australian electricity and gas markets

ACIL Tasman's report for the Energy Supply Association of Australia on the potential impact of an emissions trading scheme (ETS) on the Australian electricity and gas markets was released today(25 July 2008). The report provides the results from an extensive modelling exercise which simulated the introduction of a cap-and-trade ETS and mapped demand side as well as supply side effects. The report looked at the effects of a 10% and 20% reduction on 2000 emission levels by 2020, estimating emissions permit prices, electricity price changes, plant closures and new entry in the National Electricity Market and the WA South West Integrated System.
