- Victorian congestion report - incentives in public transport
contracts
The Victorian government today released a report by the Victorian
Competition and Efficiency Commission on Managing Transport Congestion.
Parts of the report draw on an ACIL Tasman paper prepared for the
Commission on Incentives in Public Transport Contracts. The paper
assesses current contracts between the government (as subsidiser and
regulator) and the bus, train and tram operators, against economic
and contracting principles. It criticises aspects of the bus contracts
in particular and suggests improvements that might be made in the
interests of competition and reduced congestion.
