  • Cost of invasion by feral species

A report by ACIL Tasman has found that the potential cost of a starling invasion in Western Australia could cost the State $30 million per annum in crop losses and other damage. It is possible that some 12.5 million starlings could be in WA within a decade. Currently there are as few as 1000 starlings in the State. The report, which was prepared for the Invasive Animals Cooperative Research Centre, found that there is a strong case for investment in an intensive control program.

  • National Transport Commission research programme

ACIL Tasman assisted the NTC in its process for determining the content of its 2007 research program. The work included discussions with researchers and transport industry representatives to clarify the basis for quantification, and aspects of problem definition and project definition. The proposed research covers the road freight, bus and rail sectors.
