  • Best practice in infrastructure planning and funding

    ACIL Tasman has prepared a report for the Regional Development Council of Western Australia on best practice in infrastructure planning and funding. The report examines approaches to infrastructure provision and funding in Australia and other countries and makes recommendations on the adoption of a “best practice model”. It also examines both public sector funding and approaches to private sector participation in the provision of infrastructure.

  • Consumer benefits from telecommunications improvements

    ACIL Tasman has been engaged by the Australian Communications and Media Authority to analyse the benefits to consumers from improvements in the telecommunications sector (e.g. expanded coverage of new services, lower prices). The analysis addressed market developments with fixed, mobile phone and internet services over 2005-06 and assessed the benefits to household and small business consumers. Estimates of improvements in economic welfare were derived from a version of ACIL Tasman's general equilibrium model Tasman Global augmented with a telecommunications "tech bundle". The report also includes regional analysis of telecommunications developments. The report was the basis of a chapter in the ACMA Communications Report 2005-06 which may be downloaded from
