gaming on Ballarat
ACIL Tasman released its study on the economic impact of gaming on
Ballarat, at a briefing in Ballarat on 11 July, 2006. The briefing
was presented to business, local government and community groups.
The briefing inlcuded a number of highlights from the report, indicating
that gaming had a positive impact on the Ballarat economy, that gambling
in Ballarat was a form of entertainment shared by 87 per cent of adults,
and that the vast majority gambled responsibly. The report is a major
contribution to the study of gambling because it analysed not only
the economic impact of gambling, but the prevalence of gambling in
Ballarat using a questionnaire of 1,000 adults. The study is a reprise
