- ACIL Tasman's
and Innovation Dynamics' report was presented to the OECD Working Party
on Biotechnology
In 2005 ACIL Tasman and Innovation Dynamics were commissioned by
the Department of Industry Tourism and Resources to develop a proposed
methodology to identify biotechnology's contribution to the Australian
Economy. The report was presented on 21 February 2006 to the OECD
Working Party on Biotechnology and was launched nationally on 30 March
2006. The report contains a proposed methodology as well as a comprehensive
literature review and commentary on methods that have been used to
measure this impact within Australia and internationally. At the Australian
launch Dr Iain Gillespie, Head, OECD Biotechnology Division, said
"Biotechnology will become a micro-economic driver to growth
similar to what we have seen for information and communications technologies.
Australia is one of three countries that have made a significant contribution
to international thinking on biotechnology's impact and what it will
mean for society and economic development. This report is a substantial
first step towards establishing a framework for measurement of biotechnology's
broad impact and the OECD congratulates you on this initiative."
The Department of Industry Tourism and Resources has called for comments
on the proposed methodology by 30 May 2006. To view the presentation
