Australia-China Business Council
ACIL Tasman, in collaboration with Murdoch
University, is drafting a medium term business plan
for the Australia-China Business Council (ACBC),
the country's main private sector body for promoting
business links between Australia and China. Using
our China expertise, the business plan will position
the ACBC to spearhead closer business links between
Australia and China.

The Australia-China Free Trade
Agreement, 2004
On July 5, 2004, ACIL Tasman presented
a paper on the Australia–China Free Trade Agreement
at the International Conference
on Free Trade Agreements in the Asia Pacific Region:
Implications for Australia at the University of
Western Australia in Perth. The paper presents
ACIL Tasman's preliminary analysis of the potential
economic impacts on Australia of a FTA with China
using Tasman–Global, our in-house applied general
equilibrium model of the world economy. Click

On-going consulting work for
the Australian Wool Testing Authority (AWTA)
This project primarily involves maintaining
the AWTA's customer base in China. China Chief Representative
Robert Wang has been involved in several strategic
discussions with AWTA and the relevant Chinese authorities.
The result of these discussions will fACILitate
the future expansion of the client's services thus
leading to an establishment of AWTA's China operations.
Australian China Business Council
(ACBC) Business Opportunities, 2004
China Chief Representative Robert Wang
is currently working closely with the ACBC to identify
business opportunities for its members in China
and assist them in expanding their activities. In
particular, a review has been carried to evaluate
the business development between the City of Melbourne
and the City of Tianjin.

a textile company, 2004 (private client)
A market analysis, economic and industry
assessment report was prepared to assist the company
in exploring business opportunities in China.
Strategy Development Benchmarking
Study in the China power sector, 2003
This project for the China Guangdong
Nuclear Power Company involves providing instructions
to the company on the issue of establishing a benchmarking
framework. In order to give its recommendations,
the team is undertaking a review of electricity
market developments in major overseas markets, including
assessment of the challenges and opportunities facing
IPPs, and reviewing the key recommendations and
assessments of the energy sector in China from major
international energy and financial organizations.
WTO, China and Agriculture….myths
and realities, 2002
In 2002, an ACIL Tasman expert delivered
a series of presentations to policy-makers from
central and provincial Chinese Government agencies.
Market Access Negotiations for
the Australian Wool Industry
Consultants from ACIL Tasman have participated
in market access negotiations in a variety of international
markets including, China, India, the CIS and Mexico.
This has included industry advisory roles to Australian
Trade Ministers and collaboration with the Department
of Foreign Affairs and Trade on wool industry specific
matters. ACIL Tasman also analysed market access
issues on behalf of private commercial interests,
as part of market entry risk assessment and strategic
planning assignments. In particular, Robert Wang
is currently participating in a Joint Working Group
on Wool in Beijing.
China –Enterprise restructuring
Wool and Textiles, 1995-2001
An ACIL Tasman consultant was responsible
for managing a program on behalf of AusAID, the
China National Textile Council and the Australian
Wool Research and Promotion Organisation to assist
the re-structuring and performance of State-Owned
wool textile enterprises. The program designed to
improve the efficiency and profitability of selected
manufacturers in this sector. The project involved
technology transfer, education and training, and
management development. During this period ACIL
Tasman consultants also led the development of the
China - Australia New Zealand Model Wool Contract
involving Chinese, Australian and New Zealand Governments,
and industry working groups, to provide a standard
framework for wool trading between the above countries.
