Defence,
Defence Industry, R&D and Capability Management
ACIL Tasman has extensive expertise
in providing analysis and advice relevant to Defence
sector planning, acquisition and asset management
with clients ranging from the Defence Department
through to firms and industry associations operating
in the Defence sector. Major studies have ranged
from assessments of the economic impact of major
Defence projects (such as the ANZAC ships project),
through to the application of real options and other
tools for investment planning under high levels
of uncertainty.
We have worked closely with the
Defence Department in its sector planning processes;
in assessing key aspects of its R&D strategy,
including its industry engagement; and in the development
of options-based through life investment models
as a basis for planning fleet replacement and acquisition
strategy applied to fleets as diverse as surface
combatant vessels and resupply ships; field vehicle
and trailers; and small arms.
We have advised on strategy in
relation to the location and commercial arrangements
in respect of Naval fleet support facilities, including
docking capabilities on the East and the West coats.
We have provided analogous strategy and advisory
services to the Australian Industry Group (including
the conduct of sector surveys) and to Defence contractors
including Tenix and The Australian Submarine Corporation.
